So this summer I have been enduring a war against my laziness. Its been an uphill fight, and I’ve won my share of battles. Even though I am on the varsity track & field team at my school, I am somewhat out of shape. [EDIT: I forgot to mention that I do high jump and pole vault. I don't do any running events] I started out running a once or twice a week, nothing big. Then it built to 4-5 times a week, running 4 miles each time. I felt amazing, like I could do anything. Sometimes I would just kick over shit. I was on top of the world.
But this didn’t last long. Before I knew it, I was slipping back into my lazy habits again. Next thing I knew I was sitting in front of my computer, just finishing watching the entire series of How I Met Your Mother, licking my fingers and collecting what crumbs I could from the bottom of a family-size Funyuns bag.

I noticed that when I ran and was in shape, my productivity was significantly higher. I knew it was time for a change. A few days ago, I had a revelation. It wasn’t one of those cool revelations though like in the movies where the guy like realizes he was an asshole, cleans up his act, and gets the girl. No. It was kind of like that, but like 5 times less dramatic.
So yesterday and today I picked back up with my running. Both times I ran my usual 4 mile run (which is super hilly so its way harder than 4 miles). I made the mistake of running at the hot of the day, without a shirt, after being outside for hours mowing lawns without having any food or drink yet. I barely made it and collapsed into the shower. Luckily, my shower is one of those bathtub/shower combo deals so I was set.
Anyway, I am here to tell you how important running is and why you should run and stay fit. Being in shape is very important for 3 reasons:

1) Girls like dudes who are fit. It’s true. All that inner-beauty crap means nothing. Let’s face it, being shallow is what all the cool kids are doing these days.

2) If zombies attack, you’ll probably won’t get bit as fast. Let’s not kid ourselves here, zombies are serious shit. Well, atleast newschool zombies are, not the oldschool slow zombies. Today’s zombies are faster, stronger, and smarter. I mean, what’s so scary about a bunch of zombies that you can escape with a quick powerwalk? So yeah, you will be way better off in the unlikely event of a zombie infestation.

3) You can totally win at tag. Oh also, if you call “Shotgun” and someone challenges your call, you will beat them to the car. Remember that one fast kid who always wanted to play tag because he was way faster than everyone else. That one kid who was so fast, he would never be “it” if he didn’t let people tag him. Well you can be that kid person. Like I mentioned above, you will always get “shotgun” when driving. Also, you can pretty much do whatever you want because you will be able to run away faster than people can catch you.
So yeah. I highly recommend you get in shape. It has many great benefits. If I can stand tomorrow, I will go running again. I am trying to go running every day until school starts where I will most likely fall back into bad habits again.
